Sometimes a potential painting starts with a passing glance. And if your heart says, “go back and take a second look”, you’ve got to listen! In the South, we don’t dare trespass—not just from common sense, but out of respect. When I parked my truck just off this Tennessee highway, and got close enough for a sketch, I noticed the gate was open. I didn’t dare go inside, even though I wanted to get up close. Something about that temptation fascinated me, along with other facets like the obvious—the juxtaposition of an old barn with a much newer gate.
The original watercolor painting was created in honor of the December 2023 wedding of his son Jake and his bride, Kylie. Located in Butler, Tennessee, this homestead farm land is near the wedding venue.
